If you passed the Bar Exams, here are five (5) pointers from a law school Dean.

 After passing the Bar Exams, here are five things you should do to prepare for a legal career. 





(1) First year dues

Prepare for First-year dues of less than ₱8,000.00.


(2) IBP Chapter

Choose an IBP Chapter that is close to you or where you will live until the end, not necessarily where you are working. 


(3)  PTR (Lawyer's tax)

Select your city for the PTR.


(4) Lawyer clothes

Invest for lawyer clothes; comfortable shoes; good lawyer bags.

(5) Providing advice

As a first-year lawyer, you should quickly review or brush up on three topics.

a. Marriage and annulment; 

b. Lands; how to get them, land titles; the modes of transfer of ownership, and 

c. Estate. 

Remember to teach yourself how to charge them for such advice. 👌 


Tips to start your job hunting


Private Practice/ Law Firm


Choose your area of interest. Choose a company or firm where you want to work if you want to be a labor law or human rights lawyer. Because you are now a lawyer, you have the ability to choose.



Government Practice


Begin as a court researcher or as a law clerk for a judge, Court of Appeals, or Supreme Court justice. If you want to be a judge or Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, you could also work at the Office of the Solicitor General. 


(5) Your new First Name 

When opening a bank account, make a "same name"- affidavit.
