Mindanao university ordered to close law programs

  The Legal Education Board (LEB) has ordered the Mindanao State University to close its law programs in all its campuses starting academic year 2025-2026 after it approved a resolution canceling MSU’s accreditation. The order stemmed from MSU’s refusal to recognize LEB’s supervisory authority and for asserting that it is not bound by the board’s orders, policies and guidelines on legal education. “The MSU is no longer authorized to offer the basic law program in the country,”  the LEB said. The board made permanent the cease and desist order it issued against MSU’s extension law programs on its campuses in Tawi-Tawi, Sulu and Maguindanao. It expressed concern over what it described as MSU’s “dismal” performance in the Bar examinations, noting the school’s passing rate since 2013 has been below the national passing percentage. SC Launches Digitized Benchbook for Philippine Trial Courts.

 



The Supreme Court on thursday launched the Digitized Benchbook for Philippine Trial Courts at the Session Hall of the Supreme Court of the Philippines in Manila, as it reaffirmed its commitment

 “to give all the necessary assistance and support to our trial court judges so they can effectively perform their duties to dispense justice and maintain the rule of law for a peaceful and orderly society.”

The Benchbook contains information on laws, rules, jurisprudence, and topics concerning the courts which will aid the members of the Bench in their research when crafting their rulings and in carrying out their tasks. 



Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo, in his keynote message, stressed the need

 “to have all the resource materials at our fingertips” to aid the members of the Bench in writing continuously and to not lose their momentum. 



“This digitized Benchbook for Philippine Trial Courts is intended to contain the updated pertinent laws, treaties, rules, regulations, and jurisprudence, and the latest issuances of the Supreme Court, each of them searchable, downloadable, user-friendly and ready for use,”

 said Chief.
