The Office of the President (OP) has cleared former agriculture officials of any wrongdoing in the sugar importation scandal.

BREAKING: The Office of the President (OP) has cleared former agriculture undersecretary Leocadio Sebastian, former SRA administrator Hermenegildo Serafica, and board members Roland Beltran and Aurelio Valderrama, Jr. of any wrongdoing in the sugar importation scandal.

The OP writes in a 10-page decision that the controversial Sugar Order No. 4 was issued "in good faith, absent any showing that the respondents were aware of their lack of authority."

In the face of rising sugar prices, former agriculture officials authorized the importation of 300,000 metric tons of refined sugar in August 2022.
