PREPARATION IS THE KEY

 PREPARATION IS THE KEY

One of the secrets in passing the bar exams is preparation. Just like Sun Tzu's Art of War, one way to defeat the enemy is to know his/her strengths and  weaknesses.

Fiscal Fred Nojara

In taking the bar exams, your strength will be pitted against the strength of your examiner. If there is gross imbalance in strength,  i.e. the examiner has more ammunition than you, chances are you will lose. Your enemy (examiner) will surely defeat you.

Do not let that happen.

You have four years of study of the basic bar exams subjects. From first to third years, you are taught of the subjects given in the bar exams, like political law, labor law, civil law, taxation, commercial law, criminal law, remedial law and legal ethics. Your final year in the culminates in the reviews of those subjects taken in your basic years. You will revisit these subjects. The review is the "final phase" of your stay in the college of law. That is why, you must be able to master  each subject. This is your "last opportunity" to know carefully these subjects.

If you feel you are not ready to take the bar exams after you have graduated, it is suggested you refrain from taking it. Do not rely on the pre-bar review offered by review centers. Do not even think that, since the reviewers there are known authorities in the subject, you will have a walk in the park study. The pacing in the review center is fast. For example, a review on Book 1 of the Revised Penal Code would only take eight hours. If you cannot catch up with the pacing, chances are you will be confused. In the process, you begin to question about yourself. You will have insecurities about your competence to pass the bar exams.

Now is the chance to arm and equip yourself with necessary ammunition before you train your sight to bar exams. Now that you are in the basic years of your study, make the most of it. You have to put your heart in it. Think as if there is no tomorrow. When the professor is giving his lecture, get a pen, a paper and jot down the important concepts he is discussing. Do not just be contented with listening because you cannot retain all those topics which he/she is discussing. The cycle of learning is complete when you hear, articulate and write the subject. You will surely retain it. I despise students who are just staring blankly at their professors.

If you are really dead serious in your studies, now is the time to prepare. Always remember that you will defeat your enemy by knowing his weakness. One of his/her weaknesses is when you have properly  prepared yourself for the greatest battle of your life.
