Bar Review Tips | 2023
My tips for those preparing for the September bar examinations and for those intending to take the bar examinations in the near future.
My advice to those preparing for the September bar examinations and those planning to take the bar examinations soon.
Learn to let go of things |
We must pay great attention and focus on preparing for the bar exam. Make a study plan for us to cover the whole bar exam material. We will be able to maximise our limited time if we have a specific plan for each bar subject. We will have to deny invites to birthday parties, family reunions, and even socialising with our peers since we must adhere to a strict study regimen. I do not want to imply that we spend the entire day studying alone. We can maintain contact with family and friends while maintaining a healthy balance, but this should not interfere with our reading time. Let them know and understand what is going on as we prepare for the bar. We can still go to church or meet up with friends on Sunday. Take at least one day to unwind and keep our mental, bodily, and, most importantly, spiritual health in check.
Invest on good study tools. Because of health and travel restrictions, I was unable to visit to our province immediately to recover my law books during my review, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. I was fortunate to discover the Bar Q&A Books, Gothic Publications on Lazada/Shopee. It summarised cases based on previous bar questions.
The case digests are most likely not the ones we acquire in law school. The Gothic Publications' Bar Q&A books simplified the facts of the case by referring to them as A, B, and C, or X, Y, and Z, and they focused on Supreme Court rulings. This will aid our understanding of the case and demonstrate how the Court reached some of its findings.
I also recommend the Bar Law for Dummies (BLD) Bar Q&A.
This is not your typical collection of bar questions and answers from law school. The BLD Bar Q&A is more than just a set of questions from previous bar exams. Teacher Edgar worked hard to organise them by topic and change the way the answers were written in ALAC form, which was designed for digitalized bar exams.
Reading the bar Q&A by topic and with suggested responses in ALAC format will help us learn vital concepts and focus on the most common questions asked in the bar.
Because these concepts are so important in the legal field, bar examiners have discussed them numerous times. You might also be interested in reading my post on the "Pareto principle."
If you have the money to pay for the entire course, I strongly advise you to join in the entire BLD programme and its practical exercises.
I also recommend the Central Bookstore's bar Q&A. |
Each bar topic's authors are well-known specialists in their disciplines.
However, the presentation is by year. I feel you should begin reading it with the most recent bar questions and work your way backwards.
This is the most crucial aspect of our bar review. This time, while you study for the bar exams, you should be conversant with key CODAL provisions.
We must remember all of the CODAL provisions that are necessary for the bar examinations when we read the cases in the bar Q&A.
CODAL will never fail you down, believe me. I got through the difficult first day of Political Law exams (Bar 2022) since the questions were primarily concerning significant aspects of the Constitution. You will learn more about this when you enrol in a Bar coaching course.
Dean Sarmiento's bar coaching is likewise excellent in my opinion.
Bar Coaching does not substitute our regular review classes. The coaching only teaches bar tactics, such as how to evaluate bar problems and respond to them logically. These are the most critical abilities for passing the bar exam.
Limit yourself to one main material.📚 |
The Ceballos QQR | It contains all of the information we need for the Bar. After studying the three Bar Q&A books (GOTHIC, CENTRAL, and BLD), I recommend reading the Ceballos QQR notes.
This will assist us in organising everything we have learned while preparing for the Bar Q&A. Ceballos' notes contain all of the pertinent information for the bar. We shall learn about important codal principles, laws, and regulations via a list of "bullet points" presentation.
Take note of all the codal rules and cases it refers to, and read the complete case text if you have time. We can learn more about the law and how to apply it in a real-life bar exam by reading the cases cited.

I did not pass the bar exmas previously, so I am offering these suggestions in the hope that they would assist you in preparing for the bar.
