Vic Sotto to File Complaint Against Darryl Yap
"Eat Bulaga" host and comedian Vic Sotto is reportedly set to file a complaint against director Darryl Yap over the movie *The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma*.
According to a News 5 report, Sotto’s legal counsel stated that the complaint will be filed at the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court on Thursday, January 9.
The controversy arose after Sotto’s name was mentioned in the film’s teaser. Yap, in a Facebook post on Monday, January 6, said he was uncertain about apologizing to Sotto for including his name in the teaser.
He wrote:
“About Sir Vic Sotto, I’m not sure whether to offer an apology for his name being mentioned in the film. The truth, after all, is unapologetic. As a public figure tied to a public story, I believe there’s an understanding that stories like this will inevitably resurface. My role as a filmmaker isn’t to pass judgment or provoke—it’s to tell the story as it happened, with honesty and respect for the facts. I trust that those who will watch the film will see it for what it is: an attempt to shed light on a controversy that refuses to be forgotten.”
The teaser, which runs for only 26 seconds, quickly gained traction online. It features dialogue between Gina Alajar and Rhed Bustamante, portraying Charito Solis and Pepsi Paloma, respectively. In one scene, Alajar’s character demands answers from Pepsi Paloma:
"Ipaliwanag mo sa akin, magsabi ka sa akin, ipaliwanag mo dahil hindi ko naiintindihan! Pepsi, sumagot ka! Ni-rape ka ba ni Vic Sotto?"
To which Bustamante’s Pepsi Paloma emphatically replies, "Oo!"
The teaser also includes the text:
"NAGSAMPA NG KASONG RAPE SI PEPSI PALOMA LABAN KAY VIC SOTTO NOONG AUGUST 17, 1982."
The teaser ends with the caption:
"Inakusahan ng rape ni Pepsi Paloma si Vic Sotto atbp; subalit makalipas ang ilang kaganapan ay inurong nito ang demanda. Bakit?"
The teaser, titled "LABAN O BAWI," was released on the Facebook page “VinCentiments.” Notably, "Laban o Bawi" is also the name of a popular segment from *Eat Bulaga* during its run on GMA Network.
The teaser’s release has caused Vic Sotto and Pepsi Paloma’s names to trend online, reigniting discussions about the decades-old controversy.
As of now, neither Darryl Yap nor his camp has issued a formal response to the news, although the director shared reports about the legal action on his Facebook account.
